Outrank Reels privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-10-29
Outrank Reels is a Chrome extension that ranks the posts on Instagram profiles by outlier score and merges the profiles you scan into one ranked list. Outrank Reels is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Instagram or Meta.
The short version
Outrank Reels has no server and no analytics. It does not send your Instagram data to the developer or to anyone else. What it reads stays in your browser until you remove it.
What Outrank Reels reads and stores
To read a profile's posts, Outrank Reels notices the request that Instagram's own web page makes to load that profile's Reels or Posts grid. That request carries Instagram's session tokens for the page. Outrank Reels keeps the latest one in memory, in the page, and never writes it to storage. Reloading or closing the tab discards it.
When you click Sort reels or Sort posts, Outrank Reels repeats that request for the following pages, using the session you are already logged in with. The requests go to instagram.com and nowhere else. For a very small profile, Instagram puts all the posts in the page itself, so Outrank Reels reads them from the page and makes no request at all. For each post it keeps:
- the post link and a small copy of its thumbnail picture (about 96 by 120 pixels, a few kilobytes), which Outrank Reels downloads from Instagram's image servers at scan time because Instagram's own picture addresses stop working after a few days
- the post date and type (reel, video or photo)
- views, likes and comments, when Instagram shows them
- the first 140 characters of the caption, when Instagram sends one
- the username of the account that posted it
For each scanned profile it also keeps the username, how many posts were read and the time of the scan.
Outrank Reels stores this in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). It never leaves your computer. Outrank Reels does not read or store your Instagram password, cookies or messages. Your browser attaches your Instagram cookies to the requests, as it does for any page you open.
What Outrank Reels sends over the network
- Instagram. Scans send requests to instagram.com from your browser, only when you click Sort reels or Sort posts. Instagram sees them as coming from your account and handles them under its own privacy policy. Outrank Reels also downloads each scanned post's thumbnail from Instagram's image servers (cdninstagram.com and fbcdn.net), from your browser, to keep the small copy. Pictures that could not be copied load from those servers when you view the results and the board, until their addresses expire.
- ExtensionPay. Pro is sold through ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), which uses Stripe for payment. Outrank Reels makes no ExtensionPay request until you open the Pro checkout. After that, the extension sends an anonymous random key to ExtensionPay to check whether Pro is active. ExtensionPay and Stripe handle your payment details and email under their own policies. Outrank Reels never sees your card number.
- The welcome page. When you install Outrank Reels, it opens a page on the Outrank Reels site in a new tab. That is an ordinary page visit, like clicking a link. The "See ideas" link on the empty niche board and the method link in the last row of an exported CSV open the same site, and only if you click them.
Outrank Reels sends nothing else anywhere.
What ExtensionPay stores in your browser
ExtensionPay's library keeps its random key, your Pro status and the install date in chrome.storage.sync. After a purchase it also keeps your email address and payment timestamps there, as ExtensionPay returns them. Chrome may sync that storage to your other devices if you use Chrome sync.
How long data is kept and how to delete it
Outrank Reels keeps scanned profiles until you remove them. To remove one, click the x next to its name on the niche board. Uninstalling Outrank Reels deletes the profiles it stored locally. ExtensionPay holds its own records about a purchase, so ask ExtensionPay to delete those.
Who sees your data
Nobody at Outrank Reels. The developer has no access to what you scan. The Chrome Web Store shows the developer install counts and ratings, as it does for every extension, and nothing from your scans.
Limited Use
The use of information received from Instagram will follow the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Outrank Reels uses scanned data only to show and rank posts for you. It does not sell the data, does not use it for ads, profiling or credit decisions, and does not let people read it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will carry a new date at the top.
