For anyone planning next week's reels
A 40,000-view reel can outscore a 500,000-view one.
Outrank Reels sorts a whole Instagram profile for free and scores every reel against the 12 posts around it. Then it ranks the accounts you watch on one board.
Free. Chrome on desktop. Uses the Instagram login you already have. No Outrank Reels account.

01 The problem
A profile shows reels newest first. The ones that worked could be anywhere.
If your list is 15 to 20 competitor pages, finding them means scrolling one reel at a time. And a view count alone doesn't tell you whether a reel beat that account's usual.
For example, 500,000 views on an account whose reels usually get a million is a miss. 40,000 views where the usual is 4,000 is a hit.
Guess wrong and you spend a week making a post copied from a reel that hit because of the account it ran on, not because of the format.
You've got a list of accounts to check and not enough Mondays to scroll them. Outrank Reels reads the whole profile, then scores every reel against the posts around it.
02 How the score works
Views show who's big. Outliers show what worked.
A reel's outlier score is its views divided by the median views of the 12 reels published closest to it. A score of 3x means the reel got three times what the reels around it got. 2x and up gets a yellow badge.
The neighbors come from the same stretch of time, so a reel from a year ago, before the account grew, is judged against the account as it was then. Photo posts are scored on likes plus comments, against other photo posts.
A high score says a post beat its neighbors. It does not say why. Open the reel and decide whether the format is worth copying.
Reel A has fewer views and the higher score.
03 The niche board
Every account you watch, on one ranked list.
Each profile you scan is saved in your browser. Click the Outrank Reels icon and the niche board scores every post against its own profile, then ranks all of them together. A small account's breakout can sit above a big account's best.
- The top 50 posts show on the board. The CSV has every ranked post.
- Remove any profile with the × next to its name.
- Free ranks your first 3 profiles. Pro ranks every profile you scan.
Scan a fourth profile on Free and Outrank Reels still reads and saves it. It waits outside your board, and Outrank Reels shows how many of its posts would reach your top 50.

04 How it works
How it works
You need to be logged in to Instagram in the same browser.
-
Open a profile and click Sort reels.
Choose the latest 100, 300 or 1,000, or everything. Outrank Reels reads it page by page and shows a live count. Esc stops it and keeps what it has read.
-
Read the badges.
Each reel is scored against the 12 posts published closest to it. 2x and up gets a yellow badge. Sort by Outliers, Views, Likes, Comments or Newest, and export a CSV.
-
Rank the accounts you watch.
Every profile you scan joins the niche board. Free ranks your first 3 profiles. Pro ranks every profile you scan.
What you end up with
One ranked list of the posts that beat their neighbors across the accounts you watch, a CSV for your team or client sheet, and a count of posts read, so you know the scan covered the whole profile.

06 Your data
Your scans stay in your browser.
Outrank Reels has no account of its own. The extension has no analytics and no server that receives your scans. It reads profiles with the Instagram login you already have, and its requests go to instagram.com. Scanned profiles stay in your browser until you remove them. Pro checkout goes through ExtensionPay and Stripe, and Outrank Reels never sees your card number.
- Reads
- instagram.com only. It repeats the request Instagram's own page makes to load a profile.
- Account
- No Outrank Reels account. It uses the Instagram login you already have.
- Sent to the developer
- Nothing. The extension has no analytics and no server that receives your scans.
- Where scans live
- In your browser until you remove them.
- Pace
- A pause of 0.6 to 0.9 seconds between requests. It stops when Instagram asks it to slow down, and when you press Esc.
07 Questions
Before you install.
Will it ask me to pay before it works?
No. Sorting a whole profile, outlier scores and the CSV for the profile in view are free. The niche board ranks your first 3 profiles free. Pro ranks more.
Do I need to log in?
You need to be logged in to Instagram in the same browser. Outrank Reels uses that login. It has no account of its own, and Free doesn't ask for an email or a card.
Is it safe? It reads my Instagram data.
Outrank Reels repeats the request Instagram's own page makes to load a profile, from your logged-in browser, and sends it only to instagram.com. Nothing goes to the developer. It waits 0.6 to 0.9 seconds between requests and stops when Instagram asks it to slow down. A large profile is still many requests from your account, so scan in moderation. No tool can promise how Instagram treats an account.
Instagram can sort Reels by Most viewed now. Why use this?
Instagram has been rolling out a Most viewed sort for Reels since November 2025. It orders by raw views, so it can't tell a big account's ordinary reel from a small account's breakout. Outrank Reels scores each reel against the posts around it, covers photo posts by likes plus comments, and ranks several profiles in one list.
How is Outrank Reels different from other sorters?
Other sorters do things Outrank Reels doesn't, like downloads, transcripts and TikTok. Outrank Reels sorts a whole profile for free, scores each reel against the 12 posts around it, and ranks the accounts you scan on one board.
Does it work on TikTok, or download videos?
No. Outrank Reels is Instagram only, on purpose. It doesn't download videos or write transcripts.
Isn't copying other people's reels wrong?
Copy the format, not the reel. Look at the hook, the length and the topic of what beat its neighbors, then make your own version.
Does it work on private accounts or on my phone?
Private accounts can't be read. Outrank Reels is a Chrome extension for desktop, so it doesn't run in the Instagram app.
Sort one profile and see which reels beat their neighbors.
